How did you become involved in Cognitive Science?
I have been interested since I was eight years old in how human minds work, and how to make AI smarter.
What will you be speaking about at the conference, and why is it especially important right now?
I will be talking about the moral and technical inadequacies of current AI, and how we might do better.
Don’t believe the hype, and realize that implementation can be a long road
What key takeaway do you hope attendees will gain from your session?
How to look at AI realistically.
What trends or developments in AI excite you and concern you the most?
What excites me the most is the thought that we eventually will move past the current fixation on large language models. I wrote a whole book, Taming Silicon Valley, about my many concerns such as automating misinformation, supercharging cybercrime, increasing reliance on unreliable technology, and giving too much power to small number of tech oligarchs.
